EchoStar Changing Name to DISH; Spinoff to be Called EchoStar

By Joseph Weisenthal - Fri 07 Dec 2007 01:54 PM PST

Yes, it is true, this game of well, name-changing: Satellite TV operator EchoStar (NSDQ: DISH) Communications is changing its name to the DISH Network Corporation. In a filing with the SEC, EchoStar said the name change reflects the focus of the company, which is preparing to spin off its technology and infrastructure business. As for the part being spun off, it will be called EchoStar Holding Company, but that’s just a temporary name. At some point, it will change its name back to—drumroll—EchoStar Communications Corporation, the current name of the entire company.

Sling Media, the place-shifting TV service which Echostar acquired in October for about $380 million, is going to be part of EHC.
