ReplayTV, one of the pioneers in the DVR business and now in its faded glory, has been sold by its Japanese owner D&M Holdings to DirecTV, (NYSE: DTV) for an undisclosed sum. D&M bought the ReplayTV business along with portable music player brand Rio in 2003 for about $36 million...it sold off Rio MP3 branded player business to Sigmatel in 2005, and has turned around ReplayTV’s focus from the DVR box to being a software players in the DVR sector. More here.

D&M Holdings will remain the operator of the existing service contracts for current subscribers for the foreseeable future while DirecTV will assume most of the other assets of the brand company, the release said.
