Disney Interactive Studios Buys Chinese Gaming Studio Gamestar

By Pearl Research - Mon 07 Apr 2008 12:14 PM PST

Disney Interactive Studios, the gaming arm of Disney (NYSE: DIS), is buying Gamestar, a Chinese independent video game software developer with locations in Shanghai and Wuhan. Gamestar has been in operations for six years and has 90 employees. The terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

China is becoming a major game outsourcing destination for companies seeking to lower their costs. Two of the largest game publishers, EA and Ubisoft have studio presences in China. Gamestar would become the sixth studio in Disney Interactive Studios’ growing international portfolio. Disney’s previous acquisition was Warren Spector’s Junction Point Studios, based in Austin, Texas, acquired in July 2007. More details here.
