Schmidt: The Viacom lawsuit was probably just a mistake, because the issue is DMCA and whether it applies here and whether we have joint responsibility. They should have waited for the tools to have been built. I think it is a business negotiation tool. We follow the law. The law does not require for us to build tools. We met all the requirements of the law.

Why don’t you mobilize your user base to change copyright laws?: There is a line of advocacy which we should not cross. My own view is that user content explosion is so profound that it will lead to a change in copyright laws.

Search: We are seeing tremendous success in the personalized Google page (iGoogle), which was a surprise to me, because I thought people would stay with the simple Google page. All the new generation of devices (mobile) will be able to run it.
