Court TV Fires Half Of their Online Staff; Shifting Trial Coverage To CNN.com

By Rafat Ali - Tue 13 Nov 2007 03:06 PM PST

CourtTV, which is in the middle of changing its name to truTV, has laid 16 of the 31 people on its online staff as the network shifts its online trial coverage to CNN.com, reports TVWeek. CNN will be replacing its CNN.com/law site with CNN.com/crime. The new site will pick up trial coverage and will be managed by CNN.com staff in Atlanta.

Staci adds: I’ve confirmed that CNN.com has no plans to add staff to manage the extra coverage, set to begin Jan. 1. In addition to the online trial coverage, CNN.com inherits CourtTV’s crime library. The new section also will have the in-depth reporting on the Justice Department. (We can only hope they rethink changing the name of the section from CNN.com/law to CNN.com/crime.) Meanwhile, a statement from truTV sheds little light about their plans for the new truTV.com, other than using video to match their programming.

  • From KathRudden Fri 30 Nov 2007 01:44 PM

Why does CTV continue showing its limited trial coverage at all? I am so disgusted with this change and the fact that a needed service is being removed from the public domain without a whimper by the media.  You know TruTV would not be giving the 9 to 3 time slot to trial coverage unless they had some obligation to do so.  It makes no sense otherwise.  Who will watch knowing that at 3 pm, the coverage stops abruptly.

Ok, me.  I admit, I fell off my CTV wagon today and watched the hearing.  At this point I have given up hope of ever having live trials on TV regularly again, but I would like very much to know what is the rationale behind this limited coverage.

  • From Kenneth Calvin Thu 27 Dec 2007 01:51 PM

I hope that staff resposible for alerting or directing loyal extra video cumsumers of the link to find the trials will factually do so.I hope and look forward to being able to follow trials using extra…

I’m retired and court.t.v. was a very improtant part of my day!
I’m so dissapointed that I no longer will be able to watch the trials.
Believe me, I will never turn on this new Tru t.v. show.
Hate Star Jones and want the trials back.
Where can I find the trials now that you have taken them off?
What happened to Ashleigh Banfield and the rest of the crew?

    Upset, in Portland, Oregon.

  • From Lejanak Tue 01 Jan 2008 09:11 PM

Court TV’s gavel-to-gavel trial coverage had been the only “reality” show that was worth watching. Would seem Ted Turner bought CTV to water it down and ultimately kill it off. Cul followers of Court TV are not likely to transfer allegiance to the goofy concept laid out for TruTV. Maybe it’s just me, but I have zero interest in Cops, Beach Patrol, and the rest.

  • From SANDY HOOVER Thu 03 Jan 2008 12:48 PM

I AM WITH THE PEOPLE THAT ARE UPSET WITH THE TRIALS GOING OFF THE AIR AT 3:00.  THERE ARE ENOUGH TALK SHOWS ON TV.  ALSO,WHEN LIVE TRIALS ARE ON, THERE IS TOO MUCH TALKING WHEN TESTIMONY IS BEING GIVEN.  I WANT TO HEAR FOR MY SELF WHAT IS BEING SAID BY THE WITNESSES.

  • From pat Fri 04 Jan 2008 10:53 AM

OK I am probably going to go into some sort of “"no court tv slump”...what the heck????  I watch this channel from morning till night.
No more trial coverage?  What is wrong with these owners/producers???

Let’s get rid of STAR JONES and replace her with Ashley Banfield......anything we can get together to do ---bring it back????

  • From Alex Sun 06 Jan 2008 12:01 AM

I am so happy to hear that other people are as dissappointed as I am to lose court TV!  I have been addicted to it since 1993.  Unfortunately even though the network airs trial coverage from 9AM to 3PM, there is no longer online trial coverage available on the CNN site to replace Court TV Extra.

But remember, it’s better to have loved and lost Court TV and never to have loved Court TV at all!

  • From Ron Brooks Thu 10 Jan 2008 01:44 PM

the way court tv is run today stinks you cut two hrs off the court time put star jones which I dont watch not enough trial time i miss closing arguments

  • From kathye a collier Mon 14 Jan 2008 02:50 PM

I have been addicted to courttv for several years and have even converted my husband and a couple friends.  I have been out of the loop due to the Holidays, what is going on?  Are they only going to cover old trials and not the new ones?
As far as it changing to something else at three, that’s okay with me.  I understand that the owners of the channel might want to put something else on-just keep court tv on from 9:00 to 3:00.
PS I like Star Jones okay-don’t watch her show though.
PSS Hate the name change “trutv” ? who on earth thought that one up?

  • From Candace Morton Wed 16 Jan 2008 11:43 AM

I have been watching court tv for about a year and loved it. Then you cut out 1 hour for Star Jones off which I have no interest and don’t care what she has to say. Then you change it to tru tv and get rid of so many people with out any explnation that I can tell you that I am just disgusted with the whole mess. Good luck with all the people who no longer watch which included me.

  • From Jan Thompson Wed 16 Jan 2008 04:18 PM

I’m disgusted as well!  Replacing trial coverage with Star Jones is ludicris.  I can’t stand her.  Her “sweetie pie” effect, and that breathy voice is just to much for me to take!  I have re discovered Ellen DeGeneres.  What are you people thinking.  Maybe Dan Abrams @ MSNBC, could develope a new network for trial coverage.  I’m going to suggest it.

  • From Toni Massett Wed 16 Jan 2008 06:37 PM

Just hate court TV, since, they made the big change! I have watched court TV for years and years, now, they changed it, and stop the trials at 2 o’clock. Don’t like it at all.

  • From Patricia Beauford Thu 17 Jan 2008 10:36 AM

I too miss courttv live couage from 900-600PM. You are not showing us what we want.” We dont watch Star Jones”. Hope you get it together!!!

  • From Dan Thu 17 Jan 2008 07:59 PM

I strongly agree with everyone else’s upset. CourtTV was a favorite of mine, and I am not liking anything about the TruTV change. “It’s not reality. It’s actuality.” No… it’s a pile of crap. I did give it a chance, though, hoping the change was going to be mostly in the name only. I guess not. They gave us less of what we want- trial coverage; and more crap- Most Shocking: Episode 4,003,278, etc.. I don’t know about anyone else, but I can only watch so much of a shaking camera running after police and beach patrol before I get sick.

  • From Theresa Fri 18 Jan 2008 01:06 PM

I am frustrated with TruTv and dropped coverage at 3PM.  I agree that Court TV was the only reality show worth watching.  I am sure that there is a place for Star Jones, but not in the middle of a trial.  Tru TV is a ridiculous name.  I enjoy watching the trials as I work from home.  Who likes this?

  • From jean avila Fri 18 Jan 2008 01:39 PM

I greatly miss live trial coverage. The new format is awful.  Who was the “genious” that made this decision!!!  There are also too many breaks during what little coverage you now have, making the programing very fragmented.  Star Jones adds nothing to the programing and should not replace live trial coverage.  Listen to your viewers or there will be a drop in ratings.

  • From michelle marcenaro Mon 21 Jan 2008 09:04 AM

  • From Leigh Young Dottie Jenkins Tue 22 Jan 2008 01:32 PM

My freind and I have been looking for a place to complain and we are thrilled to have a voice, even if no one will listen. We are court tv addicts. We wached it everyday and we talk about it at night when we are out with our friends. We have turned many people on to Court TV. We live in the west so our court tv goes off at 1 pm. And then we have Star. We don’t like her and all the fluff she talks about. Come on, you had a good thing and you single handedly spoiled it. When Star comes on, our TV goes off. Come on, Get with it. Bring it back! Two court Tv Junkies in Az.

  • From Annette Wed 23 Jan 2008 12:53 PM

I liked Court TV just the way it was. I’m like everyone else, I would rather have the live trials instead of Star Jones.
I stoped watching Court TV until this Mark Jenson trail came one.

  • From Virginia Wed 23 Jan 2008 01:20 PM

I was amazed when I found this site that shows how many people had my sentiments.  We have missed live verdicts, closing arguments, etc.  What purpose is served when someone has enough interest to watch a trial live and then have to see the verdict at another time?  Someone is in a cloud to think viewers will remain loyal.  The timing of the Star Jones show is silly when a lot of court action happens in the afternoon, especially on the West Coast.  I will check back periodically but am no longer a loyal viewer.

  • From shirley Wed 23 Jan 2008 01:29 PM

This new format is not worth watching.  Star Jones certainly is no substitute for live courtroom coverage.  Hopefully this site will return to how it once was and trials will not be cut off early each day.  If not, disappointed viewers will turn elsewhere.

  • From Cheri Creedon Thu 24 Jan 2008 01:12 PM

I am so upset about the demise of Court TV.  True TV (not, reality actuality--WHAT?) is symptomatic of the dumbing down of the industry..  Court TV was a classy place to be: smart lawyers, great drama, American justice system at work., a refuge from wild car chases and half nude people on the beach.
The only place now that I can find excellence is on expanded ,expanded Direct TV where I happily can view Discovery Times.  When will programers realize there is a HUGE market of boomers that are tired of silly and licentious and “adrenalin pumping “ entertainment.

  • From Beverly Thu 24 Jan 2008 09:28 PM

I thougt I was the only complaining to CNN about the trials, I enjoyed it sooo much before, not anymore.  If you try to watch after 3:00 on the internet good luck can’t get more than 3 minutes of coverage without tech problems. They really ruined everything, I don’t care about CNN news or I would have watched it before. We can’t even go back and watch what we missed for the day. SUCKS big time. Also toooooo many comercials and anchors/guests talking toooo much when the trial is on.  Just give us the trial coverage from 9-5 or 6 use your own CNN channel for that other “tru crap”

  • From chester jaeger Fri 25 Jan 2008 06:06 AM

Replacing part of In Session for one hour with Star Jones??!! You got to be kidding! She’d be a great speaker at a morticians’ or funeral directors’ convention. Maybe not even there. Please extend Ashleigh and Jack’s show an hour for the real court stuff. Going from In Session to Star Jones is like going from a roller coaster ride to a ride on the merry-go-round.

  • From Barbara Roberts Fri 25 Jan 2008 02:07 PM

I’m another Court TV addict.  I miss all of the trial coverage.  I can’t even find court coverage updates on line!  I don’t watch Star Jones and miss Catherine Crier.  Could some other network please pick up the slack?

  • From betty danielski Fri 25 Jan 2008 10:58 PM

I think the only thing that we, who are totally freaked about the changes in Court TV, is to discontinue the service altogether.  Money talks.

  • From Brenda Sat 26 Jan 2008 10:07 AM

I agree!  Bring back the all-day trial coverage.  I turn the channel when Star Jones comes on.

  • From Lana Sun 27 Jan 2008 07:09 PM

You can watch the Jensen trial on http://www.cnn.com and also on http://www.wisn.com.  No commercials, no commentators.  Just live, uninterrupted trial coverage.  For other trials, you can usually find them live online, most likely on the local tv stations that have live streaming.  Good luck.

  • From Sandy Mon 28 Jan 2008 06:55 AM

I don’t have to be to work til 3 pm so court tv was very important to me. Now I could care less about it. I need trials. I started watching court tv during the OJ Simpson Trial and I fell in love with the court show.  Now I can’t even find out if Mrs Hughs was found guilty for killing her husband. Please bring back the old Courttv. I think Star Jones is one smart lawyer but put her on at night or something. Now is not the time for CNN to take over. Lots of people work from home or just don’t work at all and they depend on shows to keep them going

  • From Vicki Mon 28 Jan 2008 03:27 PM

  • From cindy rapp Mon 28 Jan 2008 06:59 PM

Bring back live trial coverage the way it used to be on court tv.  Enough of talk shows and their opinions.  Give it to us real from the court room.

  • From Carol Ann Wilbourn Tue 29 Jan 2008 11:14 AM

You have ruined Court TV for me.  I loved the Trials that I have been able to watch over the years.  I thought Catherine Cryer was a GREAT on Air Personality; I loved her show, and it just disappeared.
These; while interesting in small doses, car chases and police foot races, are starting to be boaring.  The fabulous trial coverage is a loss to me and I’m sure to the rest of the Court TV viewing audience.
These re-hashes of past crimes with re-inactments are just channel changers for me.  I’d rather watch old movies.

Hate star jones as she is soooo blatantly racist which should not be allowed on tv.  also, today another blatantly racist jamie floyd had an editorial about someone on the golf channel making a racist remark.  i thought tv was supposed to put news on, not a racial editorial.  love your trureality court cases and love ashley and jack, they olny talk about court cases, not racist remarks.

I am very disappointed about the end of court TV at 3PM, I am in the SE and at 3PM, I do not want to watch Star Jones.. She was good in the old days on Court TV, Her current show is not interesting.  Pull Star and continue LIVE trials to the end of the court day.

  • From CClark Wed 30 Jan 2008 07:31 AM

To add insult to injury, prior to the January 01 launch date of TruTV, my cable provider, Comcast, deleted CourtTV/TruTV from the Broadband lineup and switched it to a high numbered channel only available to cable subscribers with a digital converter box.

That sucked bad enough that I’ve yet to even get the opportunity to see the new show, but from all the dissent here, it doesn’t sound like I’m missing that much.  From what I’ve seen of the show’s lineup, its just a snoozefest.

Does TruTV still have live trial coverage in themornings until 3PM?  I went to their website but it only shows programming beginning at 3PM.

I used to watch Star Jones, but only because I was watching the trial that led into her show.

I concur with the concensus here:  BRING BACK LIVE TRIAL COVERAGE!

  • From MG Miller Wed 30 Jan 2008 03:27 PM

I truly miss the original Court TV line-up. It is such a poor transition from live court coverage to Star Jones at 3pm. It seems her show would play better in another time slot or venue.  Please bring back more extensive coverage of the trials.

  • From SHIRLEY Thu 31 Jan 2008 09:33 AM

  • From Lori Thu 31 Jan 2008 08:58 PM

I am very disappointed with this new TRU TV. Yuck! I too was already disappointed that the trials ended abruptly for Star Jones. She’s ok, just not on there.. Please.

Today I was upset because I was watching on CNN where the guy who killed that beautiful woman who was hiking, plead guilty to murder and be sentenced and then it went to her beloved Father’s statement to the court and CNN cut him off. I turned it over to “Court” TV out of old habit because there was a time you could turn it over there and see everything in full. How utterly, utterly disappointing. I loved Court TV and watched it some every day. What a terrible decision to remove the live trial coverage at 2:00 p.m. (central time).

Tons of thumbs down to you who ruined a great television channel!

  • From D'sky Fri 01 Feb 2008 01:30 PM

CNN, You suck. The only thing your orginization had going to counter balance your warped letf wing political brainwashing was live coverage now thats gone to hell. FOX network is the only news without a political agenda, and the only news I trust. So without quality live court coverage, you are worthless!!!

  • From Fred Tue 05 Feb 2008 09:11 AM

Court TV should have expanded and not downsized. News, Sports and Entertainment are all good Television. Super bowls are great. Especially when an underdog such as the New York Giants, not only win, but win by coming from behind, in a two minute charge, that evolved as much heart and humane determination, as skill.
However, nothing in our (Free Society?), is more important than monitoring our judicial system. Seeing Court T V introduced in the last part of the 20th century was truly a reason to keep positive about our freedoms. Do we think Barry Sheck’s Innocence Project would have gotten any measurable publicity were it not for Court T V.?

  • From Cathy Tue 05 Feb 2008 09:41 AM

  • From Summer May Tue 05 Feb 2008 01:55 PM

Ok so, I watch the trails as much as possible. Star Jones must go. Why not add more coverage of the trails? I’m wondering what has been missed after 3p.m. Will it be covered the next day? Would hate to missed the
verdicts, that’s the whole point right. Ok so, I recall going to the couttv online staff chat they had at the time. This was during the Michael Jackson trials, the Host there I felt was rude and abrupt. Actually I was surprise and didn’t go back.

If the producer (s) are so concern about ratings, they are going to have to figure out how to air more or the trails. I can watch one of two other favorite
shows on another network at 3 p.m. so its their lost in the long run.
Having an online telecast is unbelievable clever idea, what happened with that? Producer ? you’re suppose to bring us in to your network not figure out how to tune us out.  “beach cops” are fun on weekends not during court hours! Know your market!

THANK GOODNESS STAR JONES HAS VACATED THE LINE UP.  I ALWAYS TUNE IN TO LISA AND VINNIE, JACK AND ASHLEY JUST TO CHECK ON THE BEST YOU HAVE TO OFFER.

Arrest & Trial comes on, then, guess what?  Arrest & Trial.  Then, guess what?  The Investigators.  So now I just missed 2 hrs of witnesses pouring their hearts out (for both sides), I missed the attorneys & judge asking questions......you know, all those “nonimportant” things we all want to see & hear.  UNBELIEVABLE!!!!!  So I take down the web address that Jack Ford gives us to watch it online and I spend a half hour trying to find the supposed “continuing live coverage"l and NOTHING!!!!! I tryed navigating the best I could, TURNED OFF YOUR CHANNEL & finally found this place to express my HORROR at what you have done to your programming.  I, too, am glad “Jack’s good buddy” (as he always put it) is GONE.  I am a loyal viewer for years now & like the others said TRU TV is CRAP!!!  That’s when I switch to A&E;, definitely.  And what ever did happen to Catherine?  Good point made by someone that she would let trials run into her show, like the Cody Posy case.  Alright, I could go on & on here but I don’t need to waste anymore of my time on the MOST STUPID DECISION WHOMEVER IS IN CHARGE THERE HAS MADE FOR THE LOYAL VIEWERS WHO HAVE PROBABLY RECEIVED SOME OF THE BEST INFORMATION ON LAW ON WHAT USED TO BE THE BEST SHOW ON TELEVISION!!!!

I have been around long enough to see “all good things come to an end” replaced with junk tv, but losing Catherine Crier first, then Nancy Grace to her evening show which I watch at 8pm, then having the 3pm slot go to Star Jones (thank heaven she’s gone)---- NOW WHAT???? You were fortunate to have had so many loyal Court TV viewers all these years.  Your program execs must be 20+ or 30-somethings who know nothing of daytime “quality programming” or they wouldn’t have done, and continue to do, with the lineup.  Live trials are so interesting vs. the copycat detective shows.  You have done a real disservice to us.  Hopefully you will reconsider the scheduling and allow your viewers the extra hour from 3-4.  We don’t need more talk shows or Judge XXX hows or soaps.  There are millions of intelligent television viewers home during the day.  Remember us and do the right thing.  And don’t let go of the anchors that you now have.  “Change” is not always for the good.

What were they thinking???  Did Steven Brill go broke or just made enough money to give-up?  Court TV was the one program I could count on for information and news and wonderful trial coverage.  Some of the trials they covered were iconic over the years it existed.  To see it diminished in this way is basically, hog wash.  We are being hog washed and brain washed with dither not worth viewing.  If you already have people at the various court houses and cameras and camera crews and signal feed people then why cut off the coverage at 3 when most courts go till 4pm or later depending on time zones???  Is anyone inside my tv set still thinking.  And if so what were you thinking (or smoking) to come up with this new format????

  • From donna Tue 19 Feb 2008 02:50 PM

I agree with the disappointment of the loss of trial time on tv.  Just when the court room gets back from lunch tru tv goes off the air.  I also agree that Jami Floyd often expresses her own liberal and racist views. And on a petty note of my own, she drives me crazy with her hair always caught in her eyelashes.  I know that is a silly remark but I can’t watch her for 2 hours blinking to get her bangs out of her eyes.

Many years ago, I circulated a petition and collected 128 signatures which I sent to my local cable tv in an effort to persuade them to carry Courttv, which they eventually did.  The first trial I got to watch was the doctor who murdered his wife.  After that, I was hooked.  I either watched or recorded the trials from 9am to 5pm.  I would never even SIGN a petition now, because the programming has so gone downhill.
I was so addicted to the Jensen trial, but hated the lack of coverage and all the fluff during the live trial.  (Although, I admit that I find the summaries of Jean Casares & Beth Cares remarkable & invaluable!  They answer a lot of my questions and help me figure out what I may not fully understand.) Luckily, I found the website mentioned above, that covered the trial from start to finish every day, uninterrupted.  And guess what?  You know how the hosts tell you you’re watching live tv?  Well, there’s nothing live about it.  It might be showing on the same day, but live it is not.  I know, cause I had already seen it live for real several hours earlier on my computer.
From now on, I will do a search on my computer to see what station is streaming a trial live.
I guess the reason they changed their name was to break away from court cases.  Maybe someone at the top will read all of our sentiments and start a new network called TrialTv.  I would gather petitions for that!
I, too, feel that Jami Floyd is racist and has a chip on her shoulder.  I wondered if anyone besides me WENT CRAZY watching her bangs dance with her eyelashes every time she blinks.  I thought SURELY, during the commercial, someone in makeup will make an adjustment with a little snip or hairspray, but NO!  Doesn’t she have a monitor right in front of her?  Doesn’t she have nerve endings on her eyelids?

  • From Brenda Wed 20 Feb 2008 02:32 PM

Just want to ditto most of the comments her about the disappointment in Court TV programming changes. Couldn’t believe they added Star Jones and am glad she is gone, however the new programs are no better. Each one seems to have been on many times. I’m just as disappointed in the programming that’s left. More and more time is given to the talking heads and less time is given to the actual trials. What parts that are shown of the trials are also very fragmented. The last few weeks of the Jensen trial, I’ve resorted to my computer to watch the trial. If the channel continues the way it is now, I’ll probably stop watching it altogether.

  • From Jinx Thu 21 Feb 2008 11:02 AM

I would like to make a correction to my entry above.  It occurred to me that Trutv may actually be showing live testimony, but since I am on the west coast, there is a broadcast delay.

  • From Caroline Thu 21 Feb 2008 01:25 PM

I think changing ‘’COURT TV’’to TRUTV, IS THE WORST POOSIBLE THING THAT YOU COULD HAVE DONE, THERE IS NO MORE EXCITMENT FROM LIVE TRIALS, WHO CARS ABOUT CAR CHASES, ETC. NOW YOU HAVE TO WAIT FOR A VERDIC, BECAUSE IT GOS OFF THE AIR, AND STARTS THE STUPID , CRIME STORIES, THE SAME ONES OVER AND OVER. I HATE IT! BRING BACK THE ANCHORS, AND TRIALS!

  • From carrie wright Fri 22 Feb 2008 06:30 PM

those reality shows are terrible.there are too many now without you joining in.I turn off the tv soon as court ends at 3pm.When i turn it back on i make sure it’s not to watch tru tv channel.

  • From Susan Ferchak Wed 27 Feb 2008 10:49 AM

If SO many people want Live Trials why doesn’t CNN wake up & provide them on TV?????????
Trutv is a terrible idea.  I will never watch it.
Courttv gave me something to look forward to everyday, sigh!

  • From John Q. Public Wed 27 Feb 2008 01:53 PM

Tru tv is an unmitigated disaster which in no way, shape or form is remotely as interesting as was the former Court tv.

The misery that was Star Jones was extracted from mine sensibilities via my own device - I quit her a week in, if that. Now that Tru has (finally) read the tea leaves on the fall (theirs) & followed suit, all that is left for extermination from TV screens is one last bit of disinfectant nee ‘host’ of inconsequence.

Jamie Floyd? Her? My gawd, they run off most of the fine formers who were interesting in lieu of ‘her’ - the epitome of nauseate - leaving their now three remaining faithful viewers (all paid staff) to provide the cheering/shouts any?

The conclusion reached is that, with a nod toward ‘The Invaders’ , a 1967 TV series dealing with alien beings from a dying planet, the answer to the query “whatever happened to them?” appears clear: they replaced the former execs & are in charge of programming at Tru tv.

Stay tuned for Tru tv’s exciting new show ‘Things that go Wrong in Spite of’, an autobiographical look at Tru hosted by another apparition, same difference.

  • From SANDY Thu 28 Feb 2008 11:47 PM

I agree with everyone, I will no longer be watching and subcribing to courttv, you cut out 2 hours of trial coverage, so we need to see bits and pieces the next day, and miss very important testamony, If you don’t want to lose all viewers you better bring back trial coverage at 3:00pm, I also agree with comments about jamie, and very glad Star is gone.

  • From Nancy Fri 29 Feb 2008 01:51 PM

My retired husband and I have watched COURT TV for the last couple years and enjoyed it very much except for the early cut-off at 3.  Then I went to my computer to see the rest of the day’s cession.
We have given TRUTV a fair try, but honestly not interested like we used to be.  Too much chatter and not enough trial and it ends all too soon.  Also can’t see trial coverage on the computer.  We have enjoyed Arrest and Trial for a long time, but do not want it in place of the old COURT TV.
Miss Catherine Crier and Kimberly.  James and others too.
If you can see to bring back Court TV the way it was, or somewhat similar we would appreciate it and return to watching the channel.  If not, we will be forced to find something else to watch.
    Disappointed viewers.

  • From Monica Mon 03 Mar 2008 12:59 AM

I also miss court tv the way it used to be. Im glad they came to their senses about Star Jones. But firing Vinnie Politan? Big mistake. Are they keeping Ashleigh Banfield? She was never even an attorney. She tends to blab on and on...She is so annoying. They should replace her with Bloom & Politan. I could watch those 2 for the entire day.

Trutv, you obviously dont care at all what we the consumer want.
    Ever think about polling us?
Before we all quit you for good.

  • From Marc Tue 04 Mar 2008 05:20 AM

What you people have done to the Court TV trial programming is nothing short of a scam.  How dare you cut off the program at 3 pm to air the likes of Star “loser” Jones.  Her program (which I watched once) was painfull.  Does she think that losing a little weight qualifies her to have her won show ?  Was she on somebody’s casting couch ?  What the heck was on your mind when you gave her a show ?

Ashleigh Banfield is another wiz bang !  Sarcastic, caustic, and thinks she’s a federal prosecutor.  Thank god she’s got Jack Ford to keep her Canadian Tush in line, or she would run her mouth from here to Quebec.  When is she going to be asking for her own show at 3 pm ?

Cutting off the trials at 3 pm was like the sexual foreplay when I was a kid.  Just when you think you were getting to the “moment” you were forced into the cold shower.

Bring back the old cast of characters and continue the programming till THE COURT IS OUT OF SESSION FOR THE DAY.  Catherine Crier was terrific, and Nancy Grace (although she’s got more baggage than a transatlantic crossing of the QE2).  Save Nancy from that dreadly 8 pm rag tabloid pseudo show she’s hosting part time.

    Thank you

  • From Jean Tue 04 Mar 2008 04:35 PM

I miss Vinnie Politan. Bring him back in the old Star Jones hour and give us more trial coverage. I miss CourtTv especially all the news updates every half hour. They were the good old days. I love the trials.

  • From Robert Chadwick Wed 05 Mar 2008 08:35 AM

Bye Bye TRU tv, you have lost me after 10 years of great tv trail’s.

  • From CYNTHIA THOMAS Wed 05 Mar 2008 11:56 AM

NOW you’ve done it.  Firing Vinnie Politan was just plain WRONG.  There is only one reason I still watch court procedings, and it"s Jami Floyd.  I so totally disagree with previous comments about her “racism” (since when is liberalism racist?), and petty gripes about her hair!  LISTEN to what the woman has to say, folks!  She’s the only un-biased voice of reason on what’s left of Court TV.  It is from Jami that I learned to be less initially-biased about the defense’s postition.  And she’s not sarcastic and passive-aggressive as is Ashleigh Banfield.  That too, is a shame, because I know Ashleigh’s got more going for her as a journalist than her cute and whiney “In Session” personna.

If you ever pull Jami, you’ve lost me for certain - count on it.  This entire truTV is a waste of my time, and an insult to people who USED TO enjoy the analysis of live court procedings as their daily “cut above” the mindless crap you now offer at 3 p.m.

  • From Pam Wed 05 Mar 2008 02:32 PM

The new format stinks!!  I’m tired of looking at old trials...I can’t see me watching anything that has replaced Court TV...Bye Bye

  • From Susan Thu 06 Mar 2008 07:14 AM

Slowly but surely Courttv has been decimated.  I don’t know how much longer I will continue to watch.  Beach babes and scofflaws do not make for great viewing.  Gavel-to-gavel coverage and really intelligent commentary on legal issues made the old Courttv the best programming there was.  Give me reality over “actuality” (whatever the heck that is!) any day of the week.  I echo Marc above. . . hit the “restore” button. . . PLEASE!!!!!

  • From andy Thu 06 Mar 2008 03:15 PM

I agree with the general consensus regarding the new tru tv.  We as viewers want intelligent conversation, debate and analysis of legal cases.  A little humor too? Great.  We can only watch sportscenter so many times....
Love Bloom and Politan, why’d they fire vinnie

  • From William Thu 06 Mar 2008 04:54 PM

I fully agree with the negative comments above about the changes made to CTV.  More live trial coverage is what we want and what we expect.  I also think Lisa Bloom and Vinnie Politan were a “great” team.  It WAS a mistake to fire Vinnie!!!  I enjoy the Shows that air from 3:00 P.M. to 600 P.M. but would much rather haave live trials!!

  • From Lori Fri 07 Mar 2008 02:25 AM

Please bring back Catherine Crier, Lisa Bloom, Vinnie Politan and Nancy Grace!

    Give us Court TV back.

CTV is now just another generic station with ridiculous “reality” shows.

Maybe we will all get lucky and another station will come about and bring us live trials again.  “trutv” will no longer have any viewers.

  • From Janine Bono Sun 09 Mar 2008 07:23 PM

why is it people always have to go and change something that doesn’t need changing. How about more Forensic Files and Dominc Dunn Tru Tv go away and bring back court tv

  • From kizzy Mon 10 Mar 2008 12:27 PM

I really hate the new TruTV. I was watching a trial but missed the verdict. I can’t find it anywhere. How frustrating. Their website is the worst.

  • From Jacque Mon 10 Mar 2008 02:53 PM

Please bring back the old format of Court TV to trutv.  I am an advide watcher and use to be listener on Sirus 110, but now the new EXE. have really blundered.  Why change something that doesn’t need change.

  • From Dino Mon 10 Mar 2008 02:55 PM

What the hell is wrong with the idiots who run this channel!! Firing Vinnie Politan was the last straw.  I am gone.  You programming braniacs may as well cancel all of the trial coverage, and put more shows for hillbillies in it’s place.  You had something that was classy, and unique in television, and you ruined it.  Way to go dumb asses!

  • From Lisa Mon 10 Mar 2008 06:39 PM

I am so disapointed that Vinnie Politan is gone.  I have paid extra to have CourtTV, lobbied the cable company to get it, and now this new ownership has just ruined it.  Every tv viewer is not an idiot who wants to watch realistically or actually STUPID people do real activities.  The old CourtTV was so above that, it catered to the educated and professional of us out there.  I’m sure that when all of us wise up we’ll rebel against this reality/actuality craze and the dumbing down of programming to serve the simplest of the public.  Please bring back the old all day coverage and Vinnie and Catherine Crier. Change back, resell to someone else, keep the anchors you have and don’t make another colossal mistake like losing Vinnie.  Be the first network to end the desire to program for the least of us.  There are a lot of people over 30 who’ll soon tire of car chases and watching contests between idiots.

  • From JT Wagner Tue 11 Mar 2008 07:02 AM

I dont know who is in charge of your scheduling and programing, but this TRU TV is ridiculous....I think its safe to say a whole lot of us court watchers, miss the format as it was,not as it is presently...Star Jones,I see why she didnt last too long, but you people need to bring Vinny back along with more coverage of the trials...We (NYC) dont really want to see this True TV after 3:00 and the distorted programs that you have been presenting lately.I guarentee you are going to lose a lot of Viewers..I even pay more for The new formatb from my Cable Co.,,But if it stays like it is,,Im gone Too....Sorry..Bring Back Vinny....J.T. NYC

  • From Burdette Page Tue 11 Mar 2008 08:42 AM

WHO ARE THE IDIOTS that think they should come in and CHANGE a format that worked.  Unfortunately I have taken Courtv off my favorite channel listings.  You have ruined what had been my favorite channel.  Where’s Crier??? Why do you have Ashleigh Banfield whose continually states she is not an attorney.  WE do NOT need anymore “real” tv.  In fact theres a station dedicated to nothing but reality tv.  Most of all SHAME ON YOU for killing what was one of the best male & female hosted shows.  I WANT VINNIE BACK you morons.  I love Lisa Bloom but she is the salt and we need the pepper back.  Vinnie added flavor and zest to the show.  Also kill the beach babes crap and bring back full coverage of trials and I’ll add you back to my channel rotation.

  • From Jackie Wed 12 Mar 2008 12:26 AM

I am so angry I can’t stand it.  I used to look foward to watching Court Tv everyday, and if I missed something, could easily catch it online.  Now it is impossible to enjoy In Session at 9 am because Vinnie is gone, and I loved Bloom and Politan, when it was Bloom and Politan.  It took me an hour to find this website just to write this sour note.  They took away the site to watch the trials online.  I am very disappointed and disgusted at what they think people really want to watch.  Somebody please take this station back and out of the hands of the idiots and CNN.

  • From Sandy Wed 12 Mar 2008 08:04 AM

Along with everybody else I miss Catherine, Nancy, and of course,
Vinnie.  Where is the common courtesy that would have allowed Vinnie a moment to explain the changes to us?  Its as if he never existed, almost as if Court TV had morphed into something else......

  • From del Wed 12 Mar 2008 08:23 AM

Why did you take court tv real live trials off the air.  We changed our programmining just to pick up court tv.  As avid viewers, we learned a lot of law terminology.  The show was very informative.

  • From C Little Wed 12 Mar 2008 02:45 PM

I agree with every one of the previous comments, I’ve have been watching for ever.  Even when we got our DVR I programed Lisa & Vinnie, Jamie, Jack & Ashley. I just recently (TODAY) removed them and probably will no longer be watching… You guys need HELP!!!

  • From Kenneth E. Halliburton Wed 12 Mar 2008 04:03 PM

I agree with most of the above comments except that jamie floyd is a racist. starr jones’ show was worthless. what really upsets me though is vinnie politan’s mysterious disappearance. he was such a refreshing foil to the “compassionate” civil lawyer lisa bloom and her mother because he brought the prosecutor/defense attorney perspective as most of the trials on ctv were CRIMINAL trials. i am soooo sick of lisa bloom batting her eyes like the little princess she thinks she is after another of her so-called “sensitive”
remarks from the viewpoint of a mother or woman. i detected what i thought was on-screen tension (can you say james curtis?) between lisa and vinnie and am wondering if that had anything to do with him being gone. lisa is a smart lawyer but she is weak in terms of criminal procedural understanding; i really felt and understood vinnie’s very palpable frustration and impatience with her. For example, she felt it was a “sad day” when the supreme court upheld the legal position of the government re: guantanamo--the real sad day, however, wa 9/11/2001!!!! these comments are intended to convey my disappointment about vinnie’s departure but i have say that now that he’s no longer there the show really really sucks big time. My wife and i used to watch faithfully daily; we don’t anymore. i’ve been a fan since the william kennedy smith trial in ‘91 when ctv was on 24/7 and there were highly skilled lawyer/ journalists and it was about TRIALS!!!!  all this “reality stuff” is a dumbing down
of the format and concept of intelligent legal analysis. i was even able to stomach nancy grace (where’s rikki klieman when you need her?!!) Vinnie’s show was a connection to “the best defense” w/ jamie floyd. since we no longer watch vinnie we don’t watch jamie or jack (ashleigh should go on another maternity leave but not necessariy be pregnant). Get my drift???

  • From Lisa Thu 13 Mar 2008 10:26 AM

I am so disappointed to hear that yet another of my favorite anchors is fired from this new Tru TV which now is HORRIBLE like all the other stations, I love Vinnie Polatan and they made a mistake taking him off the air.  This new take over is horrible and if Court TV the old company was smart they would start a new chanel going back to the old schedule of live trials and NOT reality TV and give them some competition.
    grrrrr bring Vinnie back!!!

  • From Diane Parmigiani Thu 13 Mar 2008 10:57 AM

I would rush home from work just for a chance to see and listen to one of the most intelligent people TV has ever had the good fortune to have, Catherine Crier .  On my days off I would have the TV tuned in to Court TV from morning until 6PM.  When my satellite company was in a contract dispute with Court TV I wrote letter after letter begging for the dispute to be resolved.  I have been watching since the OJ trial and became addicted to trial coverage no other channel could challenge.  What happened????  My father always said you don’t fix what ain’t broke so why????  Are all you TV Executives of programming that stupid?  I view myself as an intelligent person and as such when 3PM approaches I hit the remote immediately.  I hope (but honestly don’t believe it will ever happen) all the brainiacs of tru tv wake up and smell the coffee.  This format is an insult to the “tru” believers of Court TV.

  • From Reba Severin Thu 13 Mar 2008 11:31 AM

Whoever thought of changing courttv to some sort of reality tv channel really had their head up their ass. Tv reporters cannot relate the law to the non-legal mind, like an actual lawyer can.  By dwindling the types of shows that courttv was known for, those of us who do have a brain in our head, and not people who like to see high speed chases and shoot outs.  You have gotten rid of some of the most superb legal minds that worked for courttv and let a bunch of reporters from atlanta, who know nothing of the law, run this portion of the show.  In session should remain courttv and not some reality wanna be legal show.  The minute Beth Karas Or Jean Casares are gone so are we, and you can take that to the bank.  Oh by the way, by firing Vinnie Politan you did this station a disservice.

    Pissed Off and Angry,
    Reba Severin

  • From Kate Thu 13 Mar 2008 06:53 PM

To the TV execs of TrueTV:  Please consider that many enjoyed Court TV because it carried a higher quality of programming and hopefully those making the decisions would realize that there is a more advanced audience that enjoyed this level of quality and do not want to watch the more exploitive TV.

I agree with the others that Vinnie Politan was exceptional on Court TV.  He brought a sense of reason without bias and helped the viewers understand the legal side of the issues.  I see these same positive aspects in Jack Ford and Jean Kasaris.  Please consider a new program with a credible format that include personalities like Vinnie Politan, Jack Ford, and Jean Kasaris that could provide this more fact-based and non-biased approach.  Look at the successful programs like Dateline, 20/20, and 60 Minutes who provide fact-based investigative reporting programs. I believe if you leave out the more biased and exploitative type of personalities like Nancy Grace, Lisa Bloom, Ashleigh Banfield, and Star Jones you can market to an audience who will appreciate the credible format.  As a working professional, I would frequent the web site to keep up-to-date on the trials and the parties involved. I hope you will also consider bringing back the web site with a status and follow-up of the trials.

  • From MAGGIE DOMENICK Fri 14 Mar 2008 09:04 AM

I can’t believe what you have done to Court TV.  Firing Vinnie and keeping Ashleigh.  That was a big mistake.  Stopping programing at 3:00 P.M..  Another mistake.  I have been watching Court TV since it went on the air and now, it’s the same old same old.  Please bring back the original format and let us enjoy our trials again.  You did make one good change.  You got rid of Star Jones.

  • From Paula Mon 17 Mar 2008 07:02 AM

I miss not having Bloom and Politan on at 9a,m EST. Infomercials in that time slot are a disappointment. and maddening to say the least.  Although change is often welcome, this change adds to the demise of TV in general.

  • From M. Murphy Mon 17 Mar 2008 03:00 PM

I, too, agree with all the comments above.

Whoever thought of the changes to TruTv, ending trial coverage at 3 pm, firing Vinnie, etc. etc., must be from another planet.  Common sense does not prevail.  Replacing CourtTV as it used to be, with what we have now is simply unbelievable and idiotic.

I’m sure you will be losing more and more faithful and intelligent viewers if you don’t come to your senses and go back to what CourtTV used to be.  Also, the new name, TruTV, is ridiculous!!

  • From Colleen Wed 19 Mar 2008 12:10 PM

What happened to Court Tv???  This new TruTv is really sad.  I’ve cancelled TruTV from my cable lineup.

  • From PAM Thu 20 Mar 2008 11:58 AM

What’s going on with Court TV????  This TRUTV is TRULY mind numbing and BORING!!!!  Who cares about a bunch of drunk spoiled, outta control white kids on the beach!!!  You can get the same show on a Girls Gone Wild DVD.  When you’ve seen one car chase you have seen them all.  I would watch court trials on Court TV then my sister and I would listen to them while we were at work.  Judging from the responses on this site we were not alone.  The new CNN website is a big dissappointment.  I can get updates from any of the other TV stations.  Why do suits try and make decision about what the watching TV public want instead of asking us?  We are paying for these channels on cable or dish and it is a dis-service to change line ups without asking the PAYING CUSTOMERS opinion!!!

  • From SMR Fri 21 Mar 2008 06:41 AM

They also removed the Court TV Sirius Radio channel AND the live online trial coverage from the website....both of which, I used to listen to ongoing trials while at work…
