CMP Acquires Mass Events Labs, Producer Of Tech UnConferences; David Berlind Joins

By Joseph Weisenthal - Thu 03 Jan 2008 06:32 AM PST

B2B media firm CMP, a division of United Business Media (LSE: UBM), has acquired Mass Events Labs, a producer of “un-conference"-style tech events. Events include Mashup Camp, a community-driven event for web developers. Mass Events Labs will become a part of CMP’s Business Technology Group, which produces such events as Web 2.0 Expo, Enterprise 2.0, BlackHat and VoiceCon. Mass Events Labs also produces custom events for corporate clients. With the deal, Mass Events Labs’ Chief Content Officer David Berlind, formerly executive editor of ZDNet, joins CMP as executive director of the Interop conference and a TechWeb blogger. Berlind’s job will be to combine event production with new media and journalism.  Terms were not disclosed. Release.

In an interview prior to our FOBM conference, UBM CEO David Levin said the company was seeing dramatic growth in conference attendees, and that it was trying to figure out how “face-to-face” works online.
