Clear Channel Rolls Out Social Nets Tied To Local Stations

By David Kaplan - Mon 30 Apr 2007 02:29 PM PST

Clear Channel’s online music and radio division is introducing a dozen station-branded, locally focused social networks over the next few months—each operating separately from the station’s web site.  The radio giant began rolling out the networks Monday for seven top-40 stations and another five across various formats are due in June, Billboard Biz reports. The social nets will be managed separately by each station, including local advertising sales, though they share a common format and architecture. White labeler Onesite.com is handling the back end. Clear Channel plans to drive traffic to the social networks via the “listen live” streaming section on each station’s main sites. Aside from accessing Clear Channel’s 6,000 licensed songs and videos, the sites also provide a space for user-gen content, though users will have to assert each time they upload any content that it does not violate copyright law.

-- The first seven sites: KYLD-FM (WILD), SF, The Wild Space; WKSC-FM (Kiss), Chicago, The Mob; WHTZ-FM (Z100) NYC, Z-Zone; WIHT-FM (Hot 99.5), D.C., the Hot Spot; KDWB-FM, Minneapolis, Connect; KHKS-FM (Kiss), Dallas, Kiss Nation; WLDI-FM (WILD) West Palm Beach, The Wild Space
