Chinese Virtual World Hipihi Receives Funding To Build Japanese Presence

Chinese 3D virtual community Hipihi has raised an undisclosed amount of funding from Japanese venture firm NGI group. In addition to the funding, NGI is also serving as Hipihi’s strategic partner as it plan to enter the Japanese market. In June, NGI launched a new unit, 3Di.jp, that would focus specifically on business opportunities related to virtual worlds. The Beijing-based virtual world operator, which was founded in October 2005 and has been billing itself as the Chinese “Second Life,” received an unspecified amount of angel funding from GCIG last August.China Web 2.0 Review reports.
