Chinese Video Site Tudou Secures $19 Million Funding And Introduces Ad Platform

By David Kaplan - Mon 16 Jul 2007 08:21 AM PST

Chinese video site Tudou has raised $19 million in a fourth round funding.  The round was led by Capital Today and General Catalyst Partners with participation from a mix of new and existing investors, including Granite Global, IDG China, JAFCO Asia, KTB Ventures and JAIC. The round will be used to further build out Tudou’s technical infrastructure. Secondly, as more marketers gear up promotions for next year’s Olympics in Beijing, the company has launched a new ad platform, which allows brands to embed their messages into Tudou videos as well. Tudou’s advertisers already include major brands such as Adidas, Ford, KFC, Lenovo, and Sony. The company, citing figures from AC Nielsen, says that 40 million Chinese internet users are watching more than 1.2 billion videos each month off of the Tudou platform and, according to iResearch, Tudou now accounts for over half of all legal visits to online video sharing in China.
