One time conservatives may not have a problem with the word “liberal” on C-Span ... The private non-profit funded by cable and satellite affiliates is liberalizing its copyright policy to encourage more sharing of official government events. C-Span will allow non-commercial copying, sharing and posting or C-Span video online with attribution of any official events sponsored by Congress and any federal agency; that’s roughly half of all C-Span television programming. The move was endorsed by the board, which includes top executives from operators and programmers with significant copyright interests of their own. The new policy “borrows” from Creative Commons. However, the other half of C-Span’s programming—studio productions, non-federal events, campaign and political coverage, and feature programming is not included; that would have made an even more important statement. (It also would be nice if C-Span actually uses CC licenses.)
