The sun continues to shine on online ad networks—education provider Apollo Group (Nasdaq: APOL) is acquiring online advertising network Aptimus (Nasdaq: APTM) in an all-cash deal for $6.25 a share valued at approximately $48 million. Apollo operates the University of Phoenix, among others; it describes the acquisition as a way to advance the “efficacy” of its online advertising efforts. Aptimus will continue to serve other clients. According to the announcement, Apollo has an exclusive online ad management deal with AOL and Advertising.com set to expire in the next few months and it will switch to internal with Aptimus.
