-- Online Job Ads’ February Slowdown: There were 3.9 million web-based help wanted ads posted in February, for only a 3 percent gain year-over-year, the Conference Board reported. Compared to the previous month, the February numbers were up 17 percent over January 2008, which reflected an expected post-holiday seasonal boost. Still, a wider look shows further evidence of a slowdown, as the board described January’s year-over-year 7 percent increase in online job ads as “sluggish.”
-- Advertising.com Introduces Video Product: Advertising.com, part of AOL’s Platform-A advertising business, is now offering video along with its AdLearn optimizer tool. As for payment structure, the in-video ad program offers pre-rolls on a cost-per-click basis, while also maintaining a cost-per-thousand pay format for publishers. In particular, Advertising.com hopes the service will attract more direct marketers.
-- Omnicom Media Signs Up For TiVo Data Service: Omnicom Media Group has become the latest member of the ad industry to sign up for TiVo’s (NSDQ: TIVO) second-by-second audience measurement program, Stop//Watch. Omnicom joins other ad agencies such as Euro RSCG New York, Interpublic Group, Starcom, Carat USA, as subscribers to the service, along with CBS (NYSE: CBS) and NBC. This latest deal with Omnicom covers the agency’s full service media buying units OMD, PHD and Prometheus.
-- Initiative Forms Integration Unit: One enduring fad that’s been making the rounds of media agency circles the last few years has involved organizing departments along media-neutral lines. The latest version comes from Interpublic Group’s Initiative USA, which has just set up Amphibian. The new unit is charged with coming up with promotions across all platforms, from traditional media to online, mobile, digital video and internet television. Drew Corry, the agency’s manager of Digital Extensions, will head up Amphibian.
