A Real Google-Facebook Pairing: Google News Experiments With Facebook App

By Staci D. Kramer - Fri 19 Oct 2007 03:19 PM PST

imageWith all the rumors and gossip out there, it’s nice to be able to report a legit piece of Google-Facebook news. Google (NSDQ: GOOG) News, which is on a bit of a bender when it comes to trying new things of late, went live today with a Google News app for Facebook. As explained on the Google News blog, “this experimental application enables users to create custom sections or select from a set of pre-defined topics, then browse and share stories with their friends on Facebook.” It’s still in beta.

Caution: this is not a sign of anything between the two companies other than an interest in experimenting at Google News.

The big G is feeling a little left out of the party. They have the bucks to do a deal but their little video gamble is still causing some problems.

Doesn’t it mean that Google has come to realize that if you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em?!

Pretty interesting mix. The online news space is ripe for innovation. This is just more evidence that the mainstream press had better get its act together and join the party before its too late. The guys at NewsCred are blogging about this exact subject at blog.newscred.com.
