10 Senior Editorial Layoffs At Hollywood Reporter

By Rafat Ali - Thu 07 Dec 2006 07:50 PM PST

A major house cleaning has started at entertainment trade publication Hollywood Reporter (owned by VNU)...this comes after John Kilcullen, the publisher of Billboard (also part of VNU) was made in charge of HR recently in an attempt to revive its flagging fortunes.
It has laid off eight more editorial staff, mostly in the newsroom, following the axing of its top two editorial execs earlier this week. Those let go include exec editor Peter Pryor, international GM John Burman, music editor Chris Morris and tech columnist Diane Mermigas. The departures of VPs Matthew King and editorial director Howard Burns were announced earlier this week.
Rather than hire replacements, senior staff will be promoted and will have expanded responsibilities, Kilcullen said in a statement. Cynthia Littleton is now the top-ranking remaining editor at the paper.
